Lisandro Martinez and £50m player get brutal 2/10 ratings as Man United squad slated for nightmare start

Wait 5 sec.

The gloomy skies above Old Trafford don’t look like dispersing any time soon.A humiliating 4-1 defeat to Como on Wednesday evening marked Manchester United’s seventh game without a win and heaped further doubt on Michael Carrick’s future at the club.Carrick is at risk of the sack at United just five months after being given the permanent job on the touchlineAFPThe uncertainty was not aided by a controversial post-match interview where captain Bruno Fernandes publicly questioned Carrick’s tactics.Fernandes’ outburst came a week after Lisandro Martinez called out United technical director Jason Wilcox following a 2-0 loss to Atletico Madrid. In essence, all is far from well at United.Amid the Red Devils’ disastrous start to the campaign, talkSPORT’s Alex Crook rates how every United player has performed thus far.GoalkeeperBelgian ace Senne Lammens has been the main man between the sticks for United this season. After presenting himself as a relatively steady pair of hands last term, Lammens’ confidence appears to have been dented on the back of an error at the World Cup.Lammens only has one clean sheet to his name this season.DefendersIt’s largely been a start to forget for United’s defenders, having shipped ten league goals so far.Although it typically takes a team effort to be defensively poor, a number of players who have stood out for all the wrong reasons. One of those is Martinez, who scored a comical own goal against Fulham and was then at fault for Dominic Solanke’s late equaliser that rescued a 1-1 draw for Spurs.Martinez is out of contract at the end of the seasonGettyNoussair Mazraoui has also failed to prove himself worthy, having been brought in to suit Ruben Amorim’s ill-fated 3-4-3 formation.Harry Maguire may have ended last season in resurgent form but he, like several of his teammates, has dropped off and been unable to stop United leaking goals, although he continues to give his all.It is a similar story for Diogo Dalot, who has created more chances than any other defender despite having to play out of position. For Luke Shaw, his inability to stay fit has left Carrick with a serious selection headache and exposed United’s failings in the transfer market as they did not add in another left-back.Question marks remain regarding Ayden Heaven, who still does not look ready to play week-in, week-out in the Premier League.Heaven also had the difficult task of playing as a left-back against Atleti, with the 20-year-old a centre-back by trade.Maguire has been at United since July 2019, making him one of the club’s most experienced headsGettyAnother centre-back who had to moonlight elsewhere across the back four is Leny Yoro.Yoro played at right-back against Atleti and did okay, even if he was controversially sent off, but hasn’t exactly pulled up trees in his usual position.MidfieldersUnited underwent a costly reconstruction of their midfield this summer, but it hasn’t panned out as hoped so far.Andrey Santos looks a million miles off being a £50m player, with the Brazilian sloppy in possession and offering little protection for the defence.Youri Tielemans has also struggled to fit in, with his mobility a serious issue. The Belgian, who joined from Aston Villa, has logged more minutes than any other United midfielder, with the exception of skipper Bruno Fernandes.Outside of his hat-trick and assist against Ipswich, Fernandes has one goal contribution this seasonGettyAs for Fernandes, he has seriously struggled to recreate the form that won him last season’s Premier League Player of the Year award.Serious concerns remain about Mason Mount, who is into his third season with the Red Devils but has just 25 league starts under his belt. One player who could help turn United’s midfield woes around is £70m man Carlos Baleba. The 22-year-old made an instant impact off the bench in the Spurs draw and had a good game against Leeds, but is clearly still not fully match fit.Once Baleba is back up to speed, Carrick may look to pair him with Kobbie Mainoo, who has been the standout performer in an abject team.Shea Lacey is another who has showed promise, including a goal on his full United debut against Brighton in the Carabao Cup, but has been strangely under-used since.Mainoo enjoyed a return to form under Carrick having previously been frozen out under AmorimGettyForwardsThe one group somewhat sparing United from further misery is their attacking unit.Only six Premier League sides have scored more goals than the Red Devils (ten) this term, with a large portion of those coming from Bryan Mbeumo. The Cameroonian has four league goals to his name but could have scored more had he not spurned some big opportunities at important moments in games.Matheus Cunha has been another source for goals, although he has largely flattered to deceive thus far.Unfortunately the rest of United’s attack have barely delivered many bright moments.Marcus Rashford has zero goal involvements since returning from his Barcelona loan and his presence has upset the balance of the attack.Rashford was reintegrated back into the United squad after Barcelona chose not to sign him permanentlyGettyA pre-season disrupted by injury has not helped Amad Diallo, with his minutes still being managed.Diallo will hope an assist in the Como debacle can provide some much-needed momentum to properly get his season up and running.Fans are still hoping to see Patrick Dorgu recreate the form that earned him the nickname of ‘Ballon D’orgu’ early on under Carrick last season. The left-sided ace has sadly regressed in the handful of games he’s played this season and an injury sustained while on international duty hasn’t helped.Joshua Zirkzee has been game in coming off the bench and was particularly impactful in the 1-1 draw with Spurs, but has scored just one goal for United in the last ten months.Continued injury issues for Benjamin Sesko has also hampered United’s attack, with his prolonged absence proving to be a killer blow for Carrick.Alex Crook's Manchester United ratingsSenne Lammens – 5Diogo Dalot – 6Harry Maguire – 6Lisandro Martinez – 2Luke Shaw – 4Kobbie Mainoo –
