Oliver Glasner could be sacked by Christmas if he fails to turn things around at Nottingham Forest, he isn’t justifying his contract. That’s the view of talkSPORT’s Adrian Durham, who has warned that the Austrian’s summer appointment is already threatening to turn into a disaster.Glasner’s Forest are second-bottom in the Premier League after a poor start to the seasonGettyGlasner penned a three-year deal worth a huge £13million-per-year at the City Ground in June, off the back of a hugely successful stint at Crystal Palace. The 52-year-old left the Eagles after guiding them to the Conference League, having also won the FA Cup and Community Shield. However, he has failed to match his past heroics so far at Forest, with his new side currently languishing in 19th in the Premier League.Defeat to Arsenal on Sunday was the Reds’ fourth loss from seven fixtures, while they have now failed to score in any of their opening four home fixtures. With Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis known to waste no time in dismissing managers deemed as underperforming – employing four different permanent managers last season – Glasner’s start has already left some fearing the worst for him.Costly appointment?Speaking on Fiery Fridays as part of talkSPORT’s Daily Podcast, talkSPORT’s Durham warned that Glasner’s tenure could be brought to a swift end if he continues to struggle to deliver results. He began: “When they appointed Glasner in July, I think a lot of us thought, ‘Wow what an appointment that is, they mean business, this is a manager who wins trophies.’“So I think we’re all fairly impressed, thought it was a bit of a masterstroke that they’re getting a genuine winner.“I think the Forest fans loved it because they were getting the Crystal Palace manager and they like to laugh at Crystal Palace [over Europa League drama last summer].“So we all thought, ‘Yeah, decent appointment,’ but is there anyone left who thinks that this appointment was about anything other than money?”Forest haven’t won a Premier League game since September 12GettyGlasner’s current form is a far cry from his trophy-laden period at Crystal Palace, where he ended the club’s silverware droughtGetty“Is there anyone who thinks Glasner will still be there at Christmas? Because when you look at it, they’re having a bit of a nightmare.”Durham continued to question Glasner’s motivation for taking the Forest job, having been expected to take some time to assess his options after leaving Palace, only to sign for Forest a week later. On this, Durham continued: “He’s on £13million-a-year, this is a huge amount of money – the joint second highest-paid manager in the Premier League, [Mikel] Arteta is ahead of him, and he is level with Xabi Alonso at Chelsea.“That kind of salary would give me butterflies, I think that might have been what set his stomach off while he was on that beach in Greece [on holiday before his appointment].“He’s on £250,000-a-week to manage Forest badly, it’s a huge amount of money. That’s what it’s about for Glasner, let’s be real.”Issuing a warning, he then said: “Glasner took the job because of the money and it’s insane – it’s four times what he was on at Crystal Palace.Glasner is the highest-paid manager in Nottingham Forest historyGetty“So I don’t think he will be there by Christmas and here’s why, it could be sooner than that.”Durham warned that if Forest fail to improve their home form, Glasner will be faced with both an impatient owner and fanbase. The football host continued: “Tonight they play Ipswich [live on talkSPORT] and they may well get something from the game, but it’s not really about that, it’s about their home form.“They haven’t won at home this season, they haven’t scored at home this season – that’s four games, no goals at the City Ground, that’s the first time in their history that’s ever happened at the start of a season.“The form, generally, home and away isn’t good, they’re in the bottom three, but I’m focusing on the home form for a reason, because at some point those patient Forest fans are going to turn and probably at some point sooner Marinakis is going to turn.”Glasner’s end is near?Forest face a series of tough tests in their next three home games, with Manchester City, Chelsea and Brighton to come, followed by another tricky visit from Everton on December 19th.Glasner received a warm reception on his return to Crystal Palace – but the match itself ended badly for ForestGettyAnd Durham admitted Glasner’s time could be up if he fails to turn the tide by the end of a difficult run of home fixtures. He added: “He’s said consistently he needs time, and I think that’s fair enough, but Nottingham Forest and Marinakis do not give managers time, we know that.“Imagine they get to mid-December and they still haven’t scored at home and they still haven’t won at home, it’s highly likely that Marinakis, given his history, would have had enough by then.”Insisting Glasner could already have been axed after his actions in a 3-1 defeat to Palace, Durham rounded off: “Marinakis will have to act.“I think he should have sacked him after the Palace game by the way. If I’m paying my manager £13m-a-year, £250k-per-week to manage my football club, I do not want him to have a big love-in with his old club when he goes back to Selhurst Park.“He should’ve been waving wads of cash in their face, not applauding the Crystal Palace fans, and then they go and lose 3-1.“And all right, they played well on their chances, but they lost 3-1 – it’s embarrassing for Nottingham Forest.“It’s going to go down as a very expensive embarrassment that Forest will want to airbrush out of their rich history.”
