I’m in the running for these two staff spots in the Bay. Both systems have great to excellent reputations and good benefits, per you guys here on Reddit. So it kind of feels like a level playing field in that respect. Option 1: Nursery 8-hour Days (shift preference) Small unit. Will lose the acuity but gain broader women’s health experience in postpartum that I had not gained from my higher acuity NICUs Option 2: NICU 8-hour Nights (Unit preference) Higher base pay of the two options + 20% shift diff. Ideally I cross train to catch babies since it’s a level 3 (my background is level 4 children’s hospitals so no experience attending deliveries) I don’t love the idea of taking the Nursery spot and dropping acuity/risking stagnation but my issue with the NICU is the shift. (At this particular hospital, I applied for 2 PT days and 1 PT noc for the hell of it. Of course they called me back for the latter.) I said I’d NEVER do a full time night shift but that was while working 12s, I was not taking care of myself and this was not in CA. Obviously with CA nursing, money definitely talks and I can more confidently rely on getting my ratios and breaks and be done with always trying to figure out where more money can come from. I’ve been trying to get out there with a friend for a while now. I can adjust to four 11-7s right? 😫 I acknowledge I can wait for something else to open up and transfer. I’m not familiar with unions and all the seniority rules. Am I relying too much on the possibility of switching units or shifts later on? Should I just shut up and take what I can get in Unicornland? submitted by /u/uhhhhhkay [link] [comments]
