Bruno Fernandes has effectively thrown Michael Carrick under the bus.The Manchester United skipper, who walked off the field shaking his head after being substituted in the 66th minute, publicly questioned Carrick’s tactics immediately after a 4-1 loss to Como on Wednesday evening.Fernandes didn’t hold back in his verdict on Carrick’s game planGettyWhat did Bruno Fernandes say about Michael Carrick?“It’s a decision from the staff to not press man to man and sometimes leave space behind and try to get the ball, wait for them, but sometimes when you give space to these teams they get confidence,” Fernandes told TNT Sports. When pressed on whether he insinuated Carrick got his tactics wrong, Fernandes replied: “That’s on the manager and staff to see, not me. “Sometimes you have to be more brave under pressure, take the risk of pressing high and making them uncomfortable. “As you saw with them [Como], the centre-back was coming to mark me in my own half. We need to do that as a team but we were unable to. “A team that plays through the middle with small connections, if you give them too much time and space then they can hurt you out wide.”Fernandes’ staggering outburst comes one week after teammate Lisandro Martinez took a swipe at United technical director Jason Wilcox. In the aftermath of United’s 2-0 loss to Atletico Madrid, Martinez ‘100 per cent expected more’ from Wilcox in terms of strengthening the squad after Carrick steered them to a third-place finish last term.Did Michael Carrick ignore his own players?Carrick also appeared to stir controversy immediately following the Como defeat. As the full-time whistle blew, Carrick ignored all of his players before making a beeline for the away end at the Giuseppe Sinigaglia Stadium.
