WHIRL 0.2.2 is out. It's a bug-fix release, no new features. Download the zip, unzip, run; the AMD driver is all it needs. What's fixed: - **Ryzen AI Max (Radeon 8060S) with a small GPU memory setting** crashed with hipError 719, and WHIRL showed the wrong memory size. It now reads the size you set in Armoury Crate / the BIOS, and if the model doesn't fit it tells you what to set. Thanks to PURE-NAESSAH on GitHub for finding the cause ([#7](https://github.com/tsaipifong/whirl-llm/issues/7)). - **`--precise` follow-up turns are now bitwise identical to a cold run**, as promised. The cost: a follow-up turn in precise takes longer to start (Swift-1.5 27B MXFP4, 7k-token file: R9700 ~0.8 s, 8060S ~3 s at max power (80 W), ASUS ROG Flow Z13). Balance (the default) and fast are unchanged. - **Server:** a rare 21 s hang and failed connect after large requests. - **8060S fast mode** was no faster than balance on Ornith-1.5-35B-A3B MXFP4 (in a coding chat 3.5% slower). It's now 3-5% faster than 0.2.1's fast mode (8060S at max power (80 W), ASUS ROG Flow Z13; QA document 2k/96k/128k and coding chat, 32k within noise) and level with balance in the coding chat. Output unchanged. - **ROCm 10.1 driver on a PC without the Visual C++ Redistributable:** the zip now includes the runtime (follow-up to [#2](https://github.com/tsaipifong/whirl-llm/issues/2)). - Plus a KV-cache SSD fix, a clearer error-127 message and doc fixes. Release notes and download: https://github.com/tsaipifong/whirl-llm/releases/tag/v0.2.2 Single-prompt output is the same as 0.2.1 in every mode (the release gate checks this against the 0.2.1 references on both GPUs). Apart from the precise follow-up wait and 8060S fast above, no speed change is expected (we re-measured fast mode on both GPUs to check). Clients that wait for the server to close a connection get that close up to 200 ms later. submitted by /u/tsaipifong [link] [comments]
