Blue Bolt (Blue Point), one of the stars of the European Flat season with six consecutive victories, including four Group 1s, is set to line up in the GI Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf at Keeneland on Saturday week, in preference to the GI Breeders' Cup Mile.Trained by Andrew Balding for owners Juddmonte, Blue Bolt is yet to race beyond a mile in a career spanning 12 starts, with her top-level wins this year in the Falmouth Stakes, Prix Rothschild, Matron Stakes and Sun Chariot Stakes confirming her standing as one of the leading milers in Europe of either sex.The $2-million Mile at Keeneland and a clash with defending champion Notable Speech (Dubawi) had been under consideration for the prolific daughter of Blue Point, but the $2-million Filly & Mare Turf has now emerged as her preferred destination, with her connections not expecting the nine-and-a-half-furlong distance of that contest to pose any problems.“She's in great form,” Barry Mahon, Juddmonte's European racing manager, told the Nick Luck Daily Podcast on Thursday. “She did her last bit of work on Wednesday and Andrew was very happy. She's due to ship out at the end of the week and she looks in top nick.”Confirming the intention to keep Blue Bolt against her own sex, Mahon added, “At the minute, that's the way we're leaning. We don't think that the extra bit of distance around Keeneland will be a problem for her. They're both worth the same money, so the option is there to keep her against her own sex, which makes sense.“That mile start, they're quick into the first bend. There's been a lot of carnage there and your race can be over very quickly, whereas I think you have a little bit more time to get organised and for people to get their slots over the nine and a half. I think, just for the filly, it probably makes more sense. It gives her a bit more time and negates that wide draw, if you get a wide draw.”Should Blue Bolt indeed line up in the Filly & Mare Turf, then she will not be the only notable absentee from the Mile, with the multiple Group 1 winners Constitution River (Wootton Bassett) and Gstaad (Starspangledbanner), both trained by Aidan O'Brien, featuring among several European runners no longer targeting the meeting.O'Brien also scratched Lambourn (Australia) and Minnie Hauk (Frankel) from the GI Breeders' Cup Turf on Thursday, while the five-time Group 1 winner Ombudsman (Night Of Thunder) was also officially withdrawn from that $5-million highlight, as forewarned by John Gosden on Wednesday.Elsewhere, the G1 Queen Anne Stakes hero Ten Bob Tony will also miss the Mile, with trainer Ed Walker revealing to the Nick Luck Daily Podcast that the son of Night Of Thunder was not showing the right signs to make the trip after his runner-up effort in last weekend's G1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot.“It's disappointing news – we're not going to take him to the Breeders' Cup,” said Walker. “In order to get on the plane, he was going to have to really tell us since Saturday that he was up for it. He's absolutely fine, but he's just not come out of it bouncing out of his skin which, to go and run in one of the biggest Group 1s in the world, he really needs to do.“It's disappointing, but he's had an unbelievable season and been very, very busy. He's run in five Group 1s and he's been placed in them all. He's a horse who gives everything and he gave everything on Champions Day at Ascot. I think it's time for a holiday and we can look forward to him for next year.”Whilst the Breeders' Cup is off the cards, Ten Bob Tony could well be on his travels early next year, with Walker earmarking the G1 Dubai Turf at Meydan as a potential starting point to his six-year-old campaign.“I'm really intrigued by the Dubai Turf – I really think it could suit him,” the Lambourn trainer added. “He's hit the line pretty well in a few of these races over a mile this year, especially at Goodwood. He kind of looked like he was just getting going.“It would be really interesting to see him over the nine furlongs there. They always produce magnificent ground and he's proved himself so versatile this year that I don't think we'll be fussing too much about the ground anyway. It would be a great place to start him off and then bring him back and freshen him up for the Lockinge.”The post Blue Bolt Targets Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf; Ten Bob Tony Among Key Europeans Skipping Keeneland appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions.
