I turned an old laptop into a complete offline survival server – Wikipedia, maps, local AI and more I've developed a project called Prepperpoint, a fully functional offline preparedness platform designed to keep essential knowledge and digital tools accessible without an internet connection. The idea is to distribute the system on a bootable USB drive or external SSD. Plug it into a compatible computer, boot directly into Prepperpoint, and turn even an older laptop into a self-contained offline server without installing anything on the internal drive. What's included: Offline Wikipedia and knowledge libraries, including medical reference material. Offline maps covering 197 countries. Local AI assistant running entirely on the computer, without cloud services. Supply inventory management for tracking food, water and emergency equipment. Encryption tools for protecting sensitive information. Local message board for sharing information. Local Wi-Fi access, allowing phones, tablets and other devices to connect through a web browser without internet access. The platform runs on Debian Linux, and I've focused heavily on making it accessible to people without technical experience. The system is already built and working. I'm now focusing on distribution, reliability and further improvements. The bigger goal is to make useful offline knowledge and preparedness tools accessible using hardware people may already own. I've also created a short demonstration video showing the platform in action. Website: https://www.prepperpoint.se I'd genuinely appreciate feedback from other developers and makers. Would you find something like this useful? What would you improve or add? submitted by /u/glukase [link] [comments]
