Ben Olsen believes there is still plenty of progress for the Houston Dynamo to make after he agreed to sign a contract extension with the club earlier this week. Olsen joined the Dynamo in 2022 after a 10-year stint in charge of D.C. United, and he has overseen a remarkable improvement since taking the reins from Paulo Nagamura. The 49-year-old led Houston to the US Open Cup in 2022, while they have now qualified for the postseason in three of the five seasons that he has been at the helm. Houston have already qualified for the playoffs this term, and their preparations for the postseason continued with a 2-2 draw against FC Dallas in their last MLS encounter.Olsen, however, is hoping to build on the solid foundations for years to come, having confirmed he will remain with the Dynamo through the 2027-28 season."I was drawn to this opportunity with the Dynamo because of the significant potential of both the club and the city, and I am proud of the progress we have made together and the standards we have established," said Olsen."That progress reflects the commitment of our players, coaches and staff, along with the unwavering support of our fans."I am grateful to Ted, Pat and the entire Dynamo organisation for their continued trust and belief in what we are working toward. I am energised by the opportunity to continue building on our success and make the city of Houston proud."OFFICIAL: The Houston Dynamo have announced that Head Coach Ben Olsen has been signed to a contract extension Read More: https://t.co/3x9uWKw1N9 https://t.co/8PNA4Lmusv— Houston Dynamo FC (@HoustonDynamo) October 21, 2026Olsen's next challenge comes in the shape of Minnesota United, who are also in the mix for the playoffs, though their time to reach the postseason is quickly running out. They did those chances no harm by recording a 3-2 victory over St. Louis City SC last time out, with Marcus Caldeira completing the comeback win in the 86th minute. Minnesota are five points behind the Colorado Rapids in the Western Conference, and Cameron Knowles says morale has improved in the group ahead of an important stretch."There is good energy within the team coming off the back of coming from two goals down against one of the top teams in the league," Knowles said. "There has been good energy within the group on the training ground for sure. We had the guys in and they are still feeling physically from the game. "But we are back in which is a quick turnaround and it's been a tough and competitive couple of sessions, but the group are ready and raring to go."PLAYERS TO WATCHHouston Dynamo – GuilhermeOn Saturday, Guilherme tallied his team-leading 10th assist for Houston to go along with 16 goals this season. He is the first Dynamo player to record 15+ goals and 10+ assists in a single regular season and the fourth Brazilian player to do so in MLS, joining Evander (twice), Gabriel Pec and Welton.Enjoying the work https://t.co/BAYFN1uITK— Houston Dynamo FC (@HoustonDynamo) October 23, 2026Minnesota United – Kelvin YeboahWith a goal and an assist last weekend, Yeboah has recorded 21 goal contributions this season (17 goals, four assists).Yeboah is the fourth Loons player to record 20 or more goal contributions in a single regular season and the first since Robin Lod (22) in 2024.MATCH PREDICTION: HOUSTON DYNAMO WINHouston won their last home meeting with Minnesota in May 2025, their first regular-season win at Shell Energy Stadium against the Loons since September 2020.
