In 2017, former NFL star J.J. Watt donated $100,000 to launch a fundraiser for Hurricane Harvey victims in Texas. Initially targeting $200,000, the campaign eventually raised $41.6 million by August 2018. The money helped rebuild more than 600 homes, restore over 420 childcare centres, distribute 26 million meals and provide healthcare to thousands.
