Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta says that Bukayo Saka is dealing with pain after suffering an injury in midweek. The winger is set to miss this Saturday’s Premier League clash with Everton at the Emirates Stadium after coming off early during the Gunners’ 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League. Saka limped off the pitch in Germany after hurting himself while trying to play a routine pass in the match. Arteta said afterwards that he injured his quad. “Those things happen unfortunately. It doesn’t look good at all but we have to wait and see,” he told TNT Sports on Wednesday. Speaking at Friday’s pre-match press conference, Arteta revealed that Saka is finding it difficult to walk without pain. The full extent of the England international’s injury is not yet known as there is fluid in the area, meaning he requires more scans to determine the full damage. While there is no timescale on his return to action, it would appear highly unlikely Saka will feature against Everton this weekend. Arteta delivers Saka injury update ahead of Everton clash“He’s got another MRI this afternoon because he had quite a lot of fluid in the area so it was difficult to understand the extent of the injury, but we’ll know more probably tomorrow,” the Basque native said.“Again, we need a few more scans and opinions from the specialist.“Obviously when a player has to walk off the pitch, he’s struggling to walk without any pain, he’s restricted to movement, they are not good signs.“So again, let’s be a little bit patient so we can give a definitive assessment and then let you know.”Saka has played an enormous amount of football for a 25-year-old and sustained several injuries in recent seasons, leading some to wonder if he is at risk of suffering burnout. But Arteta does not believe so. “I don’t have that feeling at all,” he said. “But certainly what we have to be very mindful of is to create the right ecosystem around the player to fulfil all his qualities.“We really need to understand now, when he comes back, whenever that is, how we’re going to manage that load again. “What is he capable of today to have an impact in the team?”Asked if Saka has had to change his game due to the injuries he has accumulated, Arteta responded: “Not now. I don’t know what’s going to happen in the future. “It’s been muscle [injuries], it’s been tendons as well, which is something else, but that’s not with Bukayo, it’s with many other players as well.“We discussed that last year and that’s what we need to keep an eye on.”Arteta added that he has told Saka to maintain a positive attitude while around the squad during his recovery from this latest injury. “I already told him, just go in that building, be the first one there, bring a good spirit and energy because that’s what the team needs,” he said.“If everyone says, ‘Bukayo, how are you? Are you sad? Are you OK?’ That’s exactly what we don’t need. It is what it is. This is part of our jobs. We need to deal with it.“We can’t change it now but what we can dominate is the narrative from here to the Everton game to get together with the best energy and spirit to win the game again.”Fantasy Premier League – The best Bukayo Saka replacements ahead of GW8See Also – Five of the best Premier League away kits in 2026/27Follow the Football Faithful on Social Media:Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | YouTube | TikTokThe post Arteta delivers Saka injury update ahead of Everton clash appeared first on The Football Faithful.
