I built a free, native macOS Quick Look app for 3MF/STL files — full-color previews, no slicer needed

Wait 5 sec.

I have been building Filament, a lightweight macOS app that adds proper Finder thumbnails and interactive Quick Look previews for 3D-printing files. Select a .3mf or .stl, press Space, and you see the model instantly. No slicer required. The part I'm happiest with is full-color multi-material 3MF. If you painted a model with multiple filaments in Bambu Studio or OrcaSlicer, it shows up in its real colors (see Gary and the unicorn in the video). You can also switch to a neutral studio "Mono" look. What it does: Instant Finder thumbnails and interactive Space-bar previews (orbit, pan, zoom) Full-color multi-material 3MF, with a color/mono toggle Supports .3mf, .stl, .obj and .ply Fast even on huge models: multi-million-triangle files open in about a second 100% local: no network, no telemetry It's free, open source, and signed and notarized by Apple, so you can download it and run it. No building, no security warnings. It runs on Apple silicon and Intel Macs with macOS 14 or later. 👉 Download: https://github.com/akshaymaloo/filament/releases/latest Or install it with one line in Terminal: curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/akshaymaloo/filament/main/scripts/install-release.sh | bash 🐛 Found a bug or missing a feature?
