Do you see people who end up on one as failures? Because right now I feel like one.

Wait 5 sec.

I saw a question on Reddit from a salesperson who’d been put on a PIP “Do you see people who end up on one as failures? Because right now I feel like one.” Skills matter. But so does the product, marketing, territory, pricing, timing, and luck. Imagine two versions of you during Covid. One sells Zoom. The other sells office space at WeWork. Same work ethic. Same skills. One’s a rockstar. The other’s worried about getting let go. Did one suddenly become better at discovery? We’re quick to take all the credit when the numbers are good. And assign all the blame when they’re bad. Both leave a lot out. You can prepare, prospect, listen, follow up, do everything you know how to do, and still end up on a PIP. Sure, look at what you could improve. But before you decide you’re bad at sales, look at what you were asked to sell, to whom, at what price, with what support. A missed number deserves a closer look. It doesn’t deserve your identity. submitted by /u/Josh_Braun to r/BraunBoard [link] [comments]
