Question from a future nurse about career options

Wait 5 sec.

Hi all, I have some questions about nursing jobs as someone who planning on going to school for nursing. I’m just trying to determine the best path forward. Im currently a dialysis tech. My company has a program where they will help you in significant ways through schooling to become a nurse, in exchange for 2 years of employment after school. On paper this sounds great as I could really use the assistance with the financial aspect as well as having an employer who’s motivated to work around my schooling schedule. However, this comes with specializing in Dialysis nursing skills while letting other nursing skills get rusty. I’ve talked to a few nurses I know and have heard mixed things in regards to this. Some say specializing so early and not using certain skills can hinder finding different types of nursing employment later on. Others have said that specializing like that will look really good on my resume, especially with how long I’d be at my current company. I’m just unsure which path to take. Pay for school on my own, or get help from my company with 2 years of employment after school. I really like dialysis and wouldnt mind being a dialysis nurse for two years, but I don’t think I want to be in dialysis forever. Any suggestions? Any insight on the nursing job market in regards to picking a specialized job right away? Thanks submitted by /u/MetalPurse-swinger [link] [comments]
