I built a free browser party-game site where the TV is the server and everyone's phone is the controller

Wait 5 sec.

Side project I've been building solo from Kathmandu (yes, it's mine, and yes, I built it with a lot of AI help). What it is: Jhamela, a Jackbox-style party game site. Open it on a laptop/TV, friends join on their phones with a 4-letter code, no app install. There are 18 games right now (Ludo, Carrom, an imposter word game, a "who said that" writing game, tilt-to-steer karts, etc). How it works under the hood (the fun part): - The big screen is the server. Phones talk to it over WebRTC data channels. - Firestore only does signaling, with a fallback chain: TURN, then a Firestore relay if WebRTC can't connect. - The marble race is simulated once in a Rapier physics worker and replayed on every screen, so everyone sees the same result. - The fight game runs a deterministic 60 Hz sim. - Stack: Next.js 16, React 19, PixiJS 8, Rapier, Howler, all on free tiers (Firebase Spark + Vercel Hobby). What was hardest: reconnects. Phones lock, people switch apps, wifi drops, and the game has to keep their seat instead of kicking them. Link if you want to try it with friends: https://jhamela-party.vercel.app/ Honest feedback welcome, especially: which kind of game would your group actually play more than once? submitted by /u/iBuildRandomStuff [link] [comments]
