Some of my best gaming memories are Warcraft III custom tower defence maps with friends. I wanted a game that gave me that feeling again, couldn't find one, so I started making one. It's called Towers of Aurum. Up to four players each hold a gate and defend one long shared road. It's grown a lot further than I planned: - 4 races with 40 towers between them, and each race has its own rule - A story mode where each race crosses the world back home - About 72,000 words of lore, because I got carried away - Weekly challenges with leaderboards A few rules I set myself early and have stuck to: - It's free, and nothing you can buy makes a tower stronger. Skins only change the look. - You shouldn't need friends online to play. Bots hold any empty gate. - No download. It runs in the browser. My last project, Neon Mile, reached 7,000 players in 20 days. That's the only reason I was brave enough to try something this big. It's in beta now. For anyone here who's run a free game: how did you find your first 100 regular players? towersofaurum.com submitted by /u/vidiclol [link] [comments]
