One of Disneyland’s most popular attractions is finally welcoming guests back — with some noticeable changes.Indiana Jones Adventure has been a staple of Disneyland Park since March 1995. Its complicated ride system, which uses enhanced motion vehicles to simulate movement across rough terrain, requires regular maintenance to keep the experience running. In September, Disneyland closed Indiana Jones Adventure for an extended refurbishment. The attraction shut down on September 8, with Disney scheduling its return for October 23.However, Indiana Jones Adventure failed to reopen as expected at park opening on Friday. Guests hoping to ride the attraction were initially left disappointed, despite its six-week maintenance period.Indiana Jones Adventure Reopens at DisneylandIndiana Jones Adventure has now officially reopened at Disneyland Park.According to WDW News Today, the attraction resumed operations on October 23, approximately two hours later than expected.Credit: DisneyThe reopening also revealed several changes made during the refurbishment, some of which guests will notice immediately. One of the biggest updates is the return of the interactive bamboo pole in the indoor queue. Guests who pull the pole trigger loud crashing noises overhead, although the accompanying collapsing ceiling effect remains out of operation.Disney has also replaced the storage pouches inside the ride vehicles. The new pouches are larger than their predecessors, with elastic openings replacing the worn Velcro closures.Elsewhere, several scenes have received fresh blacklight paint. Skeletons, snakes, and spiders are now illuminated more clearly, while the large skull of Mara has been repainted with vibrant colors that react to the attraction’s lighting. The ride’s animatronics were also reportedly disassembled and serviced during the refurbishment.Credit: DisneyHowever, not every effect has returned. The spinning door illusion remains inactive, with projections of spiderwebs and moss continuing to cover two of the attraction’s doors.Disneyland Makes Changes Behind the ScenesWhile the cosmetic updates are noticeable, much of the refurbishment reportedly focused on improving the attraction’s operational efficiency.According to WDW News Today, Indiana Jones Adventure’s vehicles can now position themselves more accurately when entering and leaving the loading area. This should help reduce the time required to load and unload guests, potentially allowing more riders to experience the attraction throughout the day.The attraction’s doors have also reportedly been converted to an entirely electric system, replacing the original hydraulics, which were prone to leaking. These changes follow several other improvements made to Indiana Jones Adventure in 2026. Earlier this year, Disney restored the attraction’s bridge effect and refreshed props near its exit. For now, the attraction is once again available to Disneyland guests, although it remains to be seen whether the latest maintenance work will reduce its reputation for unexpected downtime.Credit: David Fulmer, FlickrIndiana Jones is also preparing for a major expansion elsewhere in Disney’s theme park portfolio. At Walt Disney World, Disney’s Animal Kingdom is transforming the former DinoLand U.S.A. into Tropical Americas, a new themed land featuring an Indiana Jones attraction. The upcoming Indiana Jones: Myth of the Jade Serpent will replace DINOSAUR, using the existing ride system to transport guests into a Maya temple.
