Roberto De Zerbi’s Tottenham have made it back-to-back Premier League wins with a 2-0 London derby victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Mike Penders scored an unfortunate own goal on his full Premier League debut before Mathys Tel struck a stunning solo goal against 10-man Chelsea following Cole Palmer’s red card. For only the second time in 42 attempts, Tottenham Hotspur have managed to leave Stamford Bridge with all three Premier League points. De Zerbi deserves credit for giving Spurs supporters the euphoria of winning a fixture in which expectations have generally been low in recent years. The Italian fielded arguably the strongest midfield trio from his squad, one Spurs fans have long wanted to see together: Sandro Tonali, James Maddison and Mateus Fernandes. It proved to be an outstanding midfield performance, which ultimately helped Tottenham win the game.SeasonMatchdayDateResult26/27824/10/20260:225/263719/05/20262:124/253003/04/20251:023/242602/05/20242:022/23214/08/20222:221/222323/01/20222:020/211029/11/20200:019/202722/02/20202:118/192827/02/20192:017/183201/04/20181:316/171326/11/20162:115/163602/05/20162:214/151403/12/20143:013/142908/03/20144:012/133308/05/20132:211/123024/03/20120:010/113530/04/20112:109/10620/09/20093:008/09331/08/20081:107/082212/01/20082:006/073207/04/20071:005/062911/03/20062:104/05619/09/20040:003/04513/09/20034:202/032601/02/20031:101/022713/03/20024:000/011128/10/20003:099/00512/01/20001:098/991819/12/19982:097/983311/04/19982:096/971126/10/19963:195/961525/11/19950:094/952711/02/19951:193/943027/02/19944:392/933520/03/19931:1Photo by Danehouse Photography Ltd/Getty ImagesFirst half: Chelsea 0-0 TottenhamIt was a scrappy and predictably physical start from both sides, who pressed high and made the centre of the park a congested battleground.Chelsea had the first effort on target when Cole Palmer tried to curl Morgan Rogers’ pass past Antonin Kinsky first time from inside the box. The Spurs goalkeeper, however, got a strong hand to the shot to keep it out.Omar Marmoush was preferred to Dominic Solanke up front for his ball-playing abilities, and the Egyptian had an excellent opportunity to open the scoring. Maddison sent Robertson away down the left, with the Scot combining with Mathys Tel before finding Marmoush unmarked inside the box. The forward’s effort, however, was straight at the goalkeeper. At the other end, Kinsky had a few nervy moments, giving the ball away cheaply on several occasions. Fortunately for Spurs, the goalkeeper made up for those errors with some brilliant saves.Second half: Chelsea 0-2 SpursThe only real stain on an otherwise historic evening came just five minutes into the second half, when Maddison went down with a groin injury and had to be replaced by Conor Gallagher. The midfielder was facing the club he once captained. The second half was even scrappier than the first, with fouls coming thick and fast. Palmer was fortunate to escape with only a yellow card after kneeing Fernandes in the face. The Portuguese midfielder had gone to ground after stopping a promising counter-attack led by Palmer with his hand.Tottenham had enjoyed slightly more of the game and were rewarded with the breakthrough when Chelsea goalkeeper Mike Penders punched Fernandes’ corner into his own net, sending the ball over the line.Spurs were then handed another boost when Palmer received a second yellow card for stamping on Gallagher’s foot, leaving Chelsea with 10 men and just 10 minutes remaining.Tel, making his first start for the club in well over a month, then silenced his critics in style. The Frenchman raced forward from his own half, cut inside two challenges and fired a brilliant low shot inside the left-hand post to double Tottenham’s lead. That one is for the history books. With a two-goal advantage and a man extra, the closing stages were a cakewalk for Spurs, who finally ended their eight-year wait for a Premier League victory at Stamford Bridge.READ MORE: Tottenham finally get one over on Arsenal, but in a boxing ring not on a football pitch – Spurs WebThe post Chelsea 0-2 Tottenham Match Report: Spurs finally break eight-year Stamford Bridge curse appeared first on Spurs Web.
