Police in Arua City have arrested a passenger found with more than 1,000 suspected marijuana rolls at a bus terminal.Godfrey Eguma was arrested on Thursday at Link Bus Terminal as police officers conducted routine checks on passengers’ luggage.Josephine Angucia, the West Nile police spokesperson, said Eguma was intercepted as he prepared to travel to Masindi district.“Upon search of his luggage, over 1,000 sticks of rolled suspected marijuana were recovered. When he was subjected to interrogation, the suspect claimed that the narcotics were intended for sale to workers at Kinyara Sugar Plantation in Masindi district,” Angucia said. She said investigations were ongoing to establish the source of the suspected narcotics and identify their supplier.“We commend the public for providing intelligence information that led to the arrest of the suspect with exhibits, and we appeal for continued cooperation in the fight against narcotic crimes,” Angucia said. The International Organised Crime Index 2025 report on Uganda identifies the West Nile sub-region as part of a major narcotics transit route. It also identifies Arua, Arua City, Zombo, Terego, Maracha and Yumbe as areas associated with marijuana cultivation. The report says much of the narcotics are sold in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Kampala before being transported to other countries in East Africa, the Middle East and elsewhere. The post Passenger arrested with 1,000 marijuana rolls aboard Arua bus appeared first on The Observer Media Ltd.
