I am a new grad RN about 9 months in. My goal after graduating nursing school was to work in an ICU and get my CCRN within a year. I unfortunately am not working in an ICU right now, but a general medical/trauma IMCU (or PCU). I love my unit and management. My unit is very heavy in my opinion compared to other hospital’s IMCUs/PCUs. We have a wide variety of pts and all are covered by intensivists and there are even talks of starting “low dose pressors” in the coming year. All that said I am obviously missing some important skills that will be covered on the CCRN exam due to not working in an ICU. I do not want to give up on my goal, but am realistic in my understanding that I may not meet my goal in the time line I have proposed for myself. The idea of studying for the CCRN is daunting, but I’m excited because I know it will make me a more educated nurse, and that’s what matters most to me. Where should I start in my process studying for the CCRN? Am I too in over my head? submitted by /u/Justalittledemon [link] [comments]
