I made an Android app that translates manga pages right on your phone, fully offline

Wait 5 sec.

I wanted to read raw Japanese manga without waiting for a scanlation or uploading pages to some cloud service, so I built Yomu. Open any manga in any reader app, tap the floating button, and a few seconds later the speech bubbles are redrawn in English (or Portuguese, Spanish, French, German). It all runs on the phone: bubble detection, OCR and a small LLM through llama.cpp. You download the models once, and after that it never touches the network. Built with Claude Code. Getting a 1.5B model to translate a whole page without dropping or mixing up bubbles was the hard part. Free, open source, no accounts, no ads. The APK is in Releases: https://github.com/artsaraiva/yomu Would love feedback, especially from people with older or low-RAM phones. submitted by /u/Th3Expl0Rer [link] [comments]
