e-KYC deadline for LPG users extended till Sept. 14 - The HinduPublished - September 07, 2026 09:01 pm IST - HYDERABADRepeated deadline extensions indicate that the focus remains on achieving maximum compliance with the e-KYC directive. | Photo Credit: Representational PhotoThe deadline for domestic cooking gas consumers to complete Aadhaar-based biometric authentication, or e-KYC, of their liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) connections has again been extended, this time to September 14.Confirming the one-week extension, a senior official in one of the three oil marketing companies (OMCs) said about 88% of Telangana’s 1.26 crore LPG consumers have completed the process, ensuring continued access to refills at domestic rate.For the remaining users, the rate at which cylinders will be supplied if they fail to complete e-KYC remains unclear, as the government is yet to take a decision. Repeated deadline extensions indicate that the focus remains on achieving maximum compliance with the e-KYC directive.Sources in the oil industry, however, said the e-KYC initiative to ensure refills reach only those intended is unlikely to achieve 100% coverage. Many of those yet to comply are believed to be in possession of either multiple connections in their name or use connections registered in someone else’s name.The pace of improvement in terms of the remaining consumers coming forward is slow, the official said. A week ago, the compliance level in the State stood at 86%. The deadline was extended several times in recent weeks, from August 23 to August 31 and then to September 7.Meanwhile, in a separate development unrelated to the e-KYC exercise, the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas on Monday advised the OMCs to reduce the 45 days waiting period for consumers in rural areas to book another refill to 25 days, bringing it in line with the norm prevailing in urban areas.The gap, between two bookings, was introduced at the height of the West Asia crisis as a demand management measure. The revision follows current LPG supply position and considerable reduction in refill backlogs compared to the situation when the measure was introduced, the communication to the OMCs said.Published - September 07, 2026 09:01 pm ISTSign in to unlock member-only benefits!Access 10 free stories every monthSave stories to read laterAccess to comment on every storySign-up/manage your newsletter subscriptions with a single clickGet notified by email for early access to discounts & offers on our products${ ind + 1 } ${ device }Last active - ${ la }
