Folarin Balogun may not be headed to the English Premier League this fall, but he still has a key opportunity in front of him.Balogun remains an AS Monaco player following the player’s walking away from a potential transfer to EPL side Everton on Transfer Deadline Day. Everton put in a deal sheet with the Premier League in order to get Balogun’s transfer finalized, but the 25-year-old walked away from singing and headed back to France. Monaco CEO Thiago Scuro later confirmed that Balogun did not sign with Everton over the Merseyside’s club’s doubts over his fitness. Balogun has since trained with Monaco albeit did not dress ahead of their 2-1 Ligue 1 win over reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain on Friday. U.S. Men’s National Team head coach Mauricio Pochettino voiced his support for Balogun following the striker’s hectic period, saying he wants him to be at a place where he can be his best self. “It’s difficult because you cannot influence the decision and only you need to support what they are doing with the people making the decisions,” Pochettino said in a conference call from London. “Of course, in some special case, [like] Flo, I will call in the next few days because I want to give a little bit of space after all that happened with his situation in Everton.“I want to know from him what happened, but always offering our support and be with them and that’s it,” he added. “I think he’s an important player for us, was an important player in the World Cup and hope that he can find being in Monaco, in another place, his best place to perform in the best way.”Balogun made his FIFA World Cup debut last summer, scoring three goals for the USMNT and helping them reach the Round of 16. The American forward was also involved in controversy at the tournament after his one-match suspension following a red card ejection in the Round of 32 was overturned by FIFA, causing both the Belgium Men’s National Team and several other federations to challenge FIFA’s credibility and ethics.Balogun could potentially still depart Monaco for the Saudi Pro League, Liga MX, or the Portuguese Primeira Liga, should he go that route, but staying in Ligue 1 may be his best best until the January Transfer Window opens.
