The 87th summer season at Del Mar came to a close Monday evening. While final numbers for the meet weren't yet available, the final standings for jockeys, trainers, and owners were in, with Hall of Fame rider Joel Rosario, trainer Doug O'Neill, and owner Reddam Racing taking home the titles.In his first jockey title at Del Mar since 2011, but his fourth overall, Rosario returned to California with 42 wins during the 32-day meet to secure the honor. Juan Hernandez, second with 37 victories, led all riders by stakes wins with 14. He won the final stakes race of the meet Monday, the GII John C. Mabee Stakes, on Medoro (Honor Code) and finished just one win away from the record for stakes wins by a jockey in a single season at Del Mar set by Flavien Prat in 2020.O'Neill netted the training title with 27 winners, 10 ahead of second-placed Bob Baffert, who had 17 victories. Baffert won the most stakes events with six.Reddam Racing took the owner title with nine wins and earnings of $810,040. Hronis Racing was the runner-up with six victories.“It's a premiere meet,” said racing secretary David Jerkens, “and I thought it flowed and went well. It provided a lot of exciting finishes. We saw a lot of good horses who raced here who should go on to the Breeders' Cup. It was a good meet overall.”He continued: “We stuck to a schedule that owners and trainers could count on. Eighty percent of the condition book races filled. We offered a lot of variety and balance in our program. Now that we're a consolidated circuit we have to recognize that. There are some levels that we offer at Del Mar that weren't on the menu a couple of years ago. Some of your Cal-bred categories have been expanded.”'TDN Rising Star, presented by Hagyard' Knightsbridge (Nyquist) was named Del Mar Horse of the Meet, as well as top older horse, after a scintillating win in the GI Pacific Classic.Gold Phoenix (Ire) (Belardo {Ire}) got the nod as top grass horse; Eunomia (Tiz the Law) secured top older filly or mare; Listenupshance (Shancelot) was named top sprinter; Proletariat (Raging Bull {Fr}) was recognized as top 3-year-old; and Tam Tam (Medaglia d'Oro) was named top 3-year-old filly.
