Malta has recorded its third consecutive precipitation year with below-average rainfall, according to data from the Meteorological Office.A total of 443.5mm of rain was measured between September 2025 and August 2026, falling 101.8mm short of the climatic norm of 545.3mm.The past year was slightly drier than 2024-2025, when 457.8mm was recorded, but considerably wetter than 2023-2024, which saw just 249.8mm and became the second driest precipitation year on record.Rainfall remained below average for much of the year, with only four of the 12 months exceeding their respective climatic norms.January was the wettest month, recording 112.4mm of rainfall as Storm Harry brought heavy rain and strong winds to the Maltese Islands.Meanwhile, summer was completely dry, with no measurable rainfall recorded throughout June, July and August. This marked the first completely dry meteorological summer since 2020.The wettest day of the year was 6th November 2025, when 35.6mm of rain fell within 24 hours.Rainfall also varied across the islands, with Dingli recording the highest total at 485.8mm and Bengħajsa the lowest at 342.4mm.•
