DineshPeople of several villages in Shivamogga and Bhadravathi taluk took out a protest march in Shivamogga opposing the proposed ring road project for Holehonnur town, on Friday.The protesters, gathered under the banner of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha, took out the march from the private bus stand in the city to the office of assistant director of the Directorate of Town and Country Planning and submitted a memorandum to the officer.They argued that the proposed project as part of the Road Network Grid Plan was unscientific and it would take out precious lands. Moreover, the project had been proposed without consulting the local people. H.R. Basavarajappa, president of KRRS, said that the proposed project would affect small and marginal farmers dependent on agriculture for their livelihood. There was no need of additional road for Holehonnur as the existing roads are sufficient. The government should consider improving the existing roads, instead of laying fresh roads, he added.The participants filed objections to the proposed road during the project.Published - September 11, 2026 07:33 pm ISTSign in to unlock member-only benefits!Access 10 free stories every monthSave stories to read laterAccess to comment on every storySign-up/manage your newsletter subscriptions with a single clickGet notified by email for early access to discounts & offers on our products${ ind + 1 } ${ device }Last active - ${ la }
