Forever Young, Phileas Fogg On Track For Jockey Club Gold Cup; Money Game Injured

Wait 5 sec.

Preparations continued this week for the GI Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park as Phileas Fogg (Astern {Aus}) put in a work Friday for trainer Gustavo Rodriguez.Working over the main track at Belmont, the 6-year-old went five furlongs in 1:00.45.“He breezed over the new Belmont. Kendrick Carmouche breezed him today,” Rodriguez said. “The new Belmont is beautiful and we loved the way he worked today. Kendrick was very, very happy with the way he worked. So, me too. I love what I saw.”Phileas Fogg exits a win in the GII Suburban Stakes at Saratoga July 4 and opted to train up to the JCGC instead of tackling the GI Whitney Stakes Aug. 8.“We know he loves a mile and a quarter,” Rodriguez said. “We just wanted to give him more time. The Whitney race was kind of too close for him. We decided to give him a little more time so he could recover from his last race.”Also on track, Japan's Forever Young (Jpn) (Real Steel {Jpn}) spent time galloping Friday morning after clearing quarantine earlier this week for trainer Yoshito Yahagi.Gary and Mary West homebred Money Game (Candy Ride {Arg}) will miss an expected start in the JCGC after suffering an injury during training Friday while at Saratoga.“We got him over to Rood and Riddle across the street here. He had an injury to his right-front leg,” said Blake Cox, son of and assistant to Brad Cox. FOREVER YOUNG gets his first look at the @BelmontPark1905 track ahead of the G1 Jockey Club Gold Cup! pic.twitter.com/BrAB6L5NSP— NYRA () (@TheNYRA) September 10, 2026The post Forever Young, Phileas Fogg On Track For Jockey Club Gold Cup; Money Game Injured appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions.
