St Leger Festival Day 3 Tips and Previews (Saturday 12th September 2026)

Wait 5 sec.

It’s time for the big one on Day 3 at Doncaster with the St Leger taking centre stage on a cracking card. The Champagne Stakes and Park Stakes are also mouthwatering contests while the fiercely competitive Portland Handicap should be a great watch and betting race as always. There is quality from start to finish on Town Moor, with plenty of big fields and some nice prices on offer. Hopefully I can find a few more winners as it has been a hugely profitable week so far.Top horse racing offerSt Leger Festival day 3 (Saturday) tips1.10 Bombora – 11/2 each way with SBK1.45 Desert Castle – 6/5 with bet365 NAP2.20 Apollo One – 7/1 each way with Midnite2.55 Flora Of Bermuda – 7/1 each way with bet3653.35 Enceladus – 2/1 with BoyleSports NEXT BEST4.15 Fifth Column – 14/1 each way with Paddy Power4.48 Thunder Run – 5/1 each way with bet365Joe’s best horse racing betting tips for St Leger Festival Day 3 (Saturday 12th September 2026)Find my top tips for Saturday 12th September 2026 racing with odds from the best horse racing bookies below:Doncaster 1.10 British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes (GBB/GBBPlus Race) (Straight) (Class 2) (2YO only) 1mSea The Stars colt Al Jabbar was turned over at cramped odds on debut. He didn’t run badly by any means and given the price he went off they must like him quite a bit but something is telling me to oppose here.Debutant BOMBORA is by Baaeed and he cost 240,000 guineas as a yearling and could be up to the task despite lacking experience. He looks the part on paper and if the money comes that would only enhance my confidence.Of the rest Aidan O’Brien sends over Hmas Perth and this colt by Justify shaped with potential on debut finishing third but was beaten nearly eight lengths so will need to improve to have a big say in this. Bet on BOMBORA each way at 11/2 with SBK Doncaster 1.45 Betfred Champagne Stakes (Group 2) (Class 1) (2YO only) 7fA small but select field for the Champagne Stakes and it is hard to get away from Frankel colt DESERT CASTLE. He made a winning start at Newmarket despite running green and really could be out of the top drawer. He is related to some very nice types and if sharper this time around should make it a perfect 2-2 against these.Gentle Hurricane is a nice colt and he impressed winning on debut at Salisbury before bumping into Haffner at York. That was a really good run and he is improving all the time so won’t go down without a fight. Bet on DESERT CASTLE to win at 6/5 with bet365 Doncaster 2.20 Betfred Portland (Heritage Handicap) (Class 2) (3YO plus) 51/2fThe Portland is always fiercely competitive and it looks no different this time around. Getreadytorumble and Twilight Calls arrive in top form and are vying for favouritism but it is APOLLO ONE that appeals most to me here.Back down the weights he finally showed something when fourth behind Air Force One at York and beaten just a nose in this a couple of years ago he could be ready to peak again.Lots of dangers as you’d expect and Eternal Sunshine shouldn’t be too far away. She won with a bit in hand at Hamilton last month and clearly comes here in good order for the Jim Goldie team. Air Force One is another one that is feared. Bet on APOLLO ONE each way at 7/1 with Midnite Doncaster 2.55 Betfred Park Stakes (Group 2) (Class 1) (3YO plus) 7fMore Thunder has been expensive to follow and I really wouldn’t want to take a short price about him here. The drop back to 7f should help him but he will need a lot of pace to aim at and this might not be run at the tearaway gallop that it first looks.I prefer FLORA OF BERMUDA at an each way price for Andrew Balding. She struggled at York last time but had won three of her last four prior to that blip and down in grade here with rain about could bounce back in a big way.Qirat was poor in the Sussex but that was to be expected given the strength of that race and was back to form second to Zavateri in the Celebration Mile. As long as the drop back in trip doesn’t count against him he could run a big race again. Bet on FLORA OF BERMUDA each way at 7/1 with bet365 Doncaster 3.35 Betfred St Leger Stakes (Group 1) (Class 1) (3YO only) 1m61/2fI was seriously impressed with the way ENCELADUS went through the race before winning readily at Glorious Goodwood last time. He has now won his last three and looks a colt who is just getting better and better. He steps up in trip but I see that suiting and I expect him to extend the winning run here despite facing a better calibre of opposition.Christmas Day was put in his place by Maltese Cross at York but that is obviously decent form and The Derby winner has a big shout again in this.Pierre Bonnard was in front of his stablemate last time but continues to frustrate and needs more. Bet on ENCELADUS to win at 2/1 with BoyleSports Doncaster 4.15 Pertemps Network Handicap (Straight) (Class 2) (3YO plus) 1mI don’t think that was a bad run from FIFTH COLUMN in the Royal Hunt Cup when last seen. He has been freshened up likely with this in mind and it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see him bounce back in a big way. A straight mile is ideal for him and he appeals as being overpriced in the market especially armed with a good low draw.Moonfall will probably go off favourite and should run well. He looked the winner at Ascot last time before being run down by course specialist Hickory. He is unexposed so could have more to offer. At a monster price Treasure Time is another one I can see getting seriously competitive. Bet on FIFTH COLUMN each way at 14/1 with PaddyPower Doncaster 4.48 PJ Towey Handicap (GBBPlus Race) (Class 2) (3YO plus) 1m2fIt will take a big performance off his current mark but THUNDER RUN is bang in form and that was another big run when second to Raammee at York last month. He was only beaten half a length and his form all season has been pretty solid.Karl Burke remains in terrific form and it is hard to see how he doesn’t get involved again here as this horse just seems to always give his running.City Of Poets is probably value at a double-figure price as he has won two of his last three and was quite convincing at Windsor last time and I like the second Law Court. Night Breeze is another one I can see popping up under Billy Loughnane. Bet on THUNDER RUN each way at 5/1 with bet365 My top tip for Day 3 of Doncaster St Leger FestivalSt Leger Day is always a great punting afternoon and I’m really keen on two at odds-against. DESERT CASTLE was hugely impressive on debut and can remain unbeaten in the Champagne Stakes and ENCELADUS looks the one to be on in the St Leger itself with the trip likely to bring about further improvement. Bet a Win Double on DESERT CASTLE and ENCELADUS at 5/1 with bet365 About the authorJoe NorrisI’m Joe Norris, co-founder and Director of GetYourTipsOut (GYTO), which I launched in 2009 to provide daily sports betting tips, with the main focus on horse racing.
