KERRY'S KISS (f, 4, Vino Rosso–Abuntia, by Olmodavor) stretched her win record to four in a row Saturday, staying perfect for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. in a rain-soaked edition of the GIII Princess Rooney Stakes, a 'Win and You're In' race for the GI Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint.Switched to Joseph Jr.'s barn earlier in the summer after a career spent with Burl McBride, the 4-year-old is undefeated on the Gulfstream circuit, winning her last two races, both stakes, by a combined margin of 4 1/2 lengths. Saturday marked her first leap into graded stakes company where she was lined up just inside of 6-5 race favorite Simply Joking (Practical Joke).Amidst an absolute downpour in Hollywood Beach, Kerry's Kiss got away up front and was content to keep her face clean, going right to the lead with early pressure from Anakarina (Vekoma) along the rail. Racing in near white-out conditions down the backstretch, the 2-1 shot continued to travel well over the sloppy going, comfortably pacing the field even as Simply Joking began a bid from third to steal second around the far turn.Jockey Edwin Gonzalez, still sitting chilly on Kerry's Kiss, didn't even draw his stick until midway down the stretch as Simply Joking made a challenge from several paths off the rail.
