Renowned journalist and commentator Andrew Mwenda has launched a scathing attack on Tooro Queen Mother Best Kemigisa, making serious allegations against her amid the dramatic standoff over the burial of the late King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.In a lengthy statement, Mwenda accused the Queen Mother of refusing to allow the late King’s body to leave the palace, forcing the government to deploy the army to facilitate the transfer of the body to church.Mwenda further claimed that Kemigisa later refused to release the body for burial at the royal tombs, despite Tooro customs requiring that a king be buried before 3pm.The only way they can get the body of the king and bury it is for the state to send in the army and forcefully grab the body from her.He went on to accuse the Queen Mother of what he described as decades of interference in Tooro Kingdom affairs, including alleged mismanagement and sale of kingdom land.Mwenda also revisited a 1998 incident involving former Queen Mother Kezia Byanjeru, alleging that Kemigisa had her forcibly removed from the palace by a group of men, an incident he claimed resulted in Byanjeru suffering a broken hip before her death two months later. The journalist made an even more serious allegation regarding the 1999 murder of Prince Kijanangoma, alleging that Kemigisa ordered his killing and claiming that an investigation at the time identified her as the “architect” of the crime.Mwenda further alleged that the state shielded her from prosecution because she was serving as Queen Mother while raising the young King Oyo, arguing that prosecuting her could have destabilised the kingdom.John Katuramu was convicted in connection with the murder and sentenced to death, although Mwenda maintains that the investigation considered him an accomplice rather than the mastermind. The journalist also accused Kemigisa of attempting to influence the succession of the Tooro throne, alleging that she sought to install her grand-nephew and even forged the late King Oyo’s will.Security forces clash with Queen Mother over King Oyo’s burial at royal tombsHe described the latest burial standoff as the culmination of what he characterised as more than three decades of “greed, intrigues and intransigence,” warning that the situation had pushed many Batooro beyond their limits. We are kind, tolerant and patient but we are not stupid or cowards. There is a limit to how much we can tolerate. Kemigisa cannot continue with these machinations and get away with them. Not anymore! PERIOD!Journalist Andrew Mwenda has made serious allegations against Queen Mother Best Kemigisha, accusing her of involvement in murder and claiming President Museveni has covered it up. pic.twitter.com/W9JsXOqgJ1— MBU (@MBU) September 12, 2026The post Andrew Mwenda alleges Tooro Queen Mother ordered Prince Kijanangoma’s death appeared first on MBU.
