The injury count rose to nine as rescue crews worked at the scene, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said.A separate strike that evening hit a nine-story building in the capital’s Dniprovskyi district, killing a woman and injuring four others, city authorities reported.In Kyiv Oblast, Russian strikes killed two people and injured seven, including two children. The attacks damaged 31 sites across the Bucha, Brovary, Bila Tserkva, Obukhiv, and Boryspil districts, according to regional administration head Tymur Tkachenko. This was at least the second reported attack in the area this month. A drone hit Boryspil earlier in September.In Chernihiv Oblast, a Russian drone strike hit the Novhorod-Siverskyi district, damaging residential structures. Regional authorities separately reported that a Russian drone struck a school in Novhorod-Siverskyi that evening, injuring a 27-year-old man, according to administration head Vyacheslav Chaus.In Sumy Oblast, Russian forces struck nearly 40 times across 20 settlements. A drone strike on a car in the Sumy community killed an elderly woman and injured two men, while a drone attack on a passenger train in the Sumy district injured 13 people. An elderly man died in an explosion involving an unidentified object in the Mykolaivka community. The oblast reported two dead and 17 injured overall.On the eastern front, Russian forces shelled 11 settlements across Kharkiv Oblast with guided bombs and drones. A jet-powered drone struck the Kharkiv-Izium train near the village of Iskra, injuring eight people, one critically, according to Oblast head Oleh Syniehubov. Ukrainian troops repelled 10 Russian assaults in the Slobozhansk sector and six near Kupiansk.In Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, Russian forces struck more than 20 times, killing two men and injuring nine people, according to administration head Andrii Hanzha. The heaviest damage occurred in the Nikopol district, where private homes were damaged and a hospitalized man was listed in moderate condition. A woman was also injured in the Kryvyi Rih district.In Kramatorsk, Russian aircraft dropped five guided bombs on the city, damaging 27 private homes and injuring four people. The attack continued a wave of Russian strikes on Kramatorsk and Kherson that began earlier this month.On the southern front, Zaporizhzhia Oblast sustained 945 strikes across 46 settlements over 24 hours, including 18 airstrikes. A 70-year-old woman was killed and four people were injured, including a 15-year-old. A shopping mall, warehouse, postal terminal, and port were damaged.Russian drones struck the Starokozache crossing with Moldova in southern Odesa Oblast, killing two people and injuring three. Sixteen people were evacuated.Ukraine’s General Staff reported that Russia lost about 1,480 personnel on September 9. Ukrainian losses were not disclosed. Power outages affected the Sumy, Chernihiv, Mykolaiv, Kharkiv, and Kyiv regions, according to Ukrenergo.Separately, Ukraine’s military intelligence agency, HUR, said Russia plans final tests by the end of the year on a new ballistic missile with a range of 800 kilometers. The missile could be tested against western Ukraine. HUR deputy chief Vadym Skibitskyi said Moscow’s goal is to push Ukraine into an economic crisis through intensified strikes.On the diplomatic front, Russian officials said after a Trump-Putin call that ending US support for Kyiv could help end the war as Washington sought to revive peace talks.German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul of the Christian Democratic Union backed a proposal from Christian Social Union leader Markus Söder that Ukrainian men of military age living in Germany should return home. Wadephul suggested that Berlin could share residency data with Kyiv to identify them, sparking a backlash among Ukrainians in Germany over wartime mobilization.
