Trainer George Boughey is the latest to tackle TDN's three Words to Live By questions, reflecting on the influence of Hugo Palmer, the value of patience and the importance of hard work.TDN: Who has been the most important mentor in your career, and why?George Boughey: Undoubtedly Hugo Palmer. I was lucky enough to spend six seasons with Hugo and work with some top-level horses. He is a brilliant trainer and a close friend. We probably speak more now than ever!TDN: What is the best piece of advice you've ever received, and who gave it to you?GB: I think probably to surround yourself with the best people you can. We're lucky to train an increasing number of horses, and it's not possible without fantastic people around us.Also, to be patient, whatever it is in life. I used to be 100mph! I think we're more patient now with the horses than ever, and it seems to be paying off.TDN: What advice would you give to a young person starting out in the Thoroughbred industry today?GB: Work hard! I've never met anyone who's succeeded in this game without working hard. Whether it be a jockey, trainer, breeder, agent, etc., they all work hard.Everything is on a bigger scale now. The jockeys ride more winners, the trainers train more winners, and so much planning goes into every decision every day.The post George Boughey on the Importance of Patience appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions.
