A pair of the U.S. Women’s National Team’s leading figures have been nominated for major international awards.Rose Lavelle is one of the 30 finalists for the Women’s Ballon d’Or award while Lily Yohannes is one of five players nominated for the Women’s Young Talent of the Year award. Both players remain not only key players for their respective clubs, but also for the USWNT heading into World Cup Qualifying later this year. Lavelle helped Gotham FC win the 2025 NWSL Championship in 2025 before also capturing the league’s Challenge Cup in 2026. The veteran midfielder made 40 appearances, scoring 14 goals and registering five assists in all competitions. On the international level, Lavelle has earned 11 USWNT caps since the start of 2025, scoring five goals.The 19-year-old Yohannes made the move to French club Lyon ahead of the 2025–26 season and proceeded to lift three trophies. Yohannes helped Lyon win the Division 1 Feminine title, in addition to the two domestic cups in France. Lyon also reached the UEFA Women’s Champions League Final last May before losing to Barcelona 4-0 in the tournament final.Yohannes featured in 48 matches, while scoring six goals and adding 10 assists. Since debuting for the USWNT in 2024, Yohannes has earned 20 caps and lifted a pair of SheBelieves Cup trophies to date (2024, 2026).Both players will continue on with their respective league schedules before finding out their award statuses later this year.
