Malta marked the eve of Victory Day with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Great Siege Monument in Valletta yesterday evening.Prime Minister Robert Abela, Speaker of the House of Representatives Carmelo Abela and Opposition representative Alex Perici Calascione were among those who laid wreaths, alongside other distinguished guests and representatives of constitutional bodies. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Lovin Malta (@lovinmalta)The ceremony was held ahead of Victory Day, celebrated across the Maltese Islands today, 8th September.The national holiday commemorates three significant moments in Malta’s history: the end of the Great Siege of 1565, the end of the French blockade in 1800 and Malta’s role during the Second World War, with Italy’s armistice announced on 8th September 1943.The day also coincides with the Feast of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, known locally as il-Vitorja, celebrated in several localities across Malta and Gozo.And later today, another much-loved Victory Day tradition will take centre stage, with the traditional regatta taking place in the Grand Harbour.Happy Victory Day, Malta!Cover photo DOI Malta Clifton Fenech•
