Van Hecke also explained where he feels Tottenham still need to improve, particularly when it comes to their decision-making in the final third.Asked about the team’s performance, he said: “Obviously, we’re disappointed with the result because we came here to win, but we didn’t manage it, so that’s frustrating.”Tottenham have gone six hours without a goal – the longest scoreless run in their history – and Van Hecke admits it’s an area they must improve.Speaking about Spurs’ struggles in front of goal and what they must improve, he added: “I think we managed to keep another clean sheet, which is positive. But I feel like we often get close to their goal and into the box well, but at the final moment, we lack the right decision-making. Sometimes we need to shoot earlier, and sometimes we need to pass. So it’s clearly something we need to learn and work hard to improve.”The Tottenham defender also discussed the importance of scoring the first goal and the role the supporters can play in helping the team build momentum. While he praised the fans for their backing, Van Hecke admitted that Spurs became too anxious towards the end of the game.He continued: “Yes, I think the fans today were incredible—they kept supporting us and pushing us on. Of course, they also need a goal, and we need a goal too. Once that goal comes, everything becomes easier, and a goal changes the game. “But we’ll keep working hard. That said, I felt toward the end we got a bit too anxious, which led to some sloppy handling of the ball, and we really need to do better in that respect.”Van Hecke praises Spurs defence and Micky van de Ven partnershipDespite the frustration of failing to win, Van Hecke was keen to acknowledge the importance of another clean sheet and the defensive work Tottenham put in against Everton.“I think it all starts with defense. To win matches and get points, you have to keep clean sheets. If you want to win something, you have to have very good defensive ability. “Today we kept another clean sheet, which is good. Micky played very well, and I think all the defenders and other players worked hard to help us, which is good. But unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to help us win.”Van Hecke was then asked about the busy run of fixtures ahead and whether having another match so quickly – with Liverpool up next in the Carabao Cup – could help Tottenham move on from the result and produce a response.He concluded: “I think we just need to keep moving forward, keep trying to improve ourselves, stay positive, and make sure we try to do better every day. “I’m 100% confident that we’ll get good results. Of course, I wanted to win today too, so I’m very frustrated right now.
