Chris Algieri is concerned for former foe Conor Benn as he gears up for his WBC welterweight title tilt against Ryan Garcia this weekend.Algieri’s apprehension doesn’t stem from Benn’s boxing ability, but rather the physical toll of a heavy weight cut.Benn knocked out Algieri in the New Yorker’s last fight in 2021Mark Robinson/MatchroomBenn hasn’t made the 147lbs limit in four years, and looks extremely gaunt in recent pictures. ‘The Destroyer’ has already declared that his upcoming fight will be his last in the division due to the ‘excruciating’ process of boiling himself down to championship weight.Instead, Benn insisted he will skip super welterweight and look to compete at either middleweight or super middleweight going forward. His comments, combined with his current physique, have had Algieri, a qualified nutritionist and former world champion, fearing the worst. It’s still two weeks to go, and we’re seeing pictures like that.
