No match for Sun Goddess in the Phoenix Stakes last month, Al Shira'aa Racing's Folsom Blues (Blue Point) was in a class of his own in Sunday's G1 Goffs Vincent O'Brien National Stakes at The Curragh.Far from disgraced when 1 1/4 lengths behind Ballydoyle's femme fatale in that six-furlong feature, the homebred went through this contest with consummate ease waiting for the command from Joey Sheridan. When that was given approaching the furlong pole, the 11-2 shot took off to beat fellow Joseph O'Brien-trained Monogram (Kingman) by six lengths. Third was Ballydoyle's Florida Bay (Mehmas), another 1 1/4 lengths away.“When he relaxes, he's a fair jet,” Sheridan said. “Early on in his career, he just wanted to please and they've done some job with him. I know how good Monogram is, but when I went for my lad I couldn't see him being caught.”Al Shira'aa's racing manager Kieran Lalor was on hand to reflect on the operation's first homebred Group 1 winner. “Joseph has done an incredible job with him and it's very special,” he said. “We fell in love with this fellow and came up with a reason not to sell him. Emotions are running high and hearts are pounding, credit to the whole team. This is where we want to be, to compete with the best and this is absolutely huge. This one will be remembered forever.” crushes a strong field in the National Stakes for Joseph O'Brien and Joey Sheridan! pic.twitter.com/GL6o3atjwI— Racing TV (@RacingTV) September 13, 2026The post ‘This Is Absolutely Huge’: Lalor Celebrates Al Shira’aa Breakthrough With National Stakes Hero Folsom Blues appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions.
