my brother went to a really small school in high school. An ederly couple with no kids had hosted an exchange student and ended up being deemed unsafe for him to be there. He was friends with my brother and was allowed to be transferred to our house. The school was super small and not a lot of people offered to take him in. We did not get any money. (but we got an amazing lifelong brother out of it!) Because it was last second some logistics weren’t perfect. BUT if we needed someone to give him a ride we would at least pay for their gas etc.
