KM Malta Airlines passengers were left stranded at Gatwick after Tuesday’s flight to Malta was cancelled amid widespread disruption to the UK’s air traffic control system.Multiple passengers contacted Lovin Malta saying they spent hours at the airport with limited information or assistance.One passenger said she finally left after around 15 hours, having been told to find alternative flights and accommodation herself, with costs to be reimbursed. Another said passengers were given just £8 each for food and drink.Another traveller described the situation as “absolutely chaotic and incredibly disappointing”, claiming the airline’s customer service desk was closed when passengers were directed there for help.KM Malta Airlines has since confirmed that one return operation to Heathrow and another to Gatwick were cancelled due to the UK air traffic control failure.The airline said it cannot offer affected passengers alternative flights for the remainder of this week because most available services are fully booked.Passengers can instead explore alternative routes or later dates, while those who no longer wish to travel can request a full refund.KM Malta Airlines apologised for the disruption, which it stressed was caused by circumstances beyond its control.•
