Malta’s Hindu community came together for an evening of prayer, culture and celebration as Krishna Janmashtami was marked in Ħamrun.Organised by the Hindu Association of Malta, the celebration took place on 5th September at San Ġorġ Preca College, bringing together devotees from across Malta and Gozo.Members of Malta’s Hindu community with roots in India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Mauritius and Malta took part in the festivities, which began with prayers to Lord Krishna.Hindu Association of Malta president Subhas Roy welcomed those present, while Vaibhav Rana, representing the High Commission of India in Malta, addressed the gathering. Professor John Berry, former Dean of the University of Malta’s Faculty of Theology, also attended as guest of honour.The evening featured cultural performances from children and adults, including dances, devotional songs and an interactive quiz, before concluding with prasad and a Hindu vegetarian meal shared among attendees.Krishna Janmashtami is an annual Hindu festival celebrating the birth of Lord Krishna, regarded in Hindu tradition as the eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu. Celebrations around the world traditionally include prayer, fasting, devotional singing and communal gatherings.Happy Krishna Janmashtami to everyone who celebrated.•
