The Rainforest Foundation began in 1989, supporting Indigenous Kayapó people in Brazil. This effort secured over 12 million acres of ancestral land for the Kayapó. The organization later expanded its mission to protect rainforests worldwide. It supported local groups in land rights and forest conservation efforts.
