Mohan on Thursday said that a ‘New Congress’ would emerge in Andhra Pradesh through the ensuing local body elections providing a great opportunity for the party to showcase its strength at the grassroot level.Speaking to The Hindu over telephone ahead of his visit to the State from September 14, Mr. Mohan said: “I am planning to visit all districts in the State to hold review meetings with senior leaders and chalk out an action plan for the local body elections.”Later, I will hold meetings in all 175 Assembly constituencies to strengthen the party ahead of the 2029 Assembly and Parliament elections, he added. He expressed confidence that the Congress would emerge victorious in several constituencies in 2029 and be in a position to form the government in 2034.The Congress senior leader felt the Congress’s governments in Kerala, Karnataka and Telangana and its alliance with TVK in Tamil Nadu would influence votes in Andhra Pradesh also improving its prospects. He also said that Opposition Leader in Lok Sabha ‘Rahul Gandhi’ has become an icon of the new generation which are keen to vote for the Congress in the municipal and parishad elections.He alleged that the Telugu Desam and the YSRCP had failed to develop Andhra Pradesh over the last 12 years. “YSRCP’s graph has fallen drastically in the 2024 elections. Its strength got reduced to 11 seats in the previous elections. TDP and its alliance parties such as Jana Sena Party (JSP) and BJP lost the people’s support with poor administration. All these factors will make people look at the Congress in the State,” said Mr. Mohan.Mr. Mohan alleged that parties in Andhra Pradesh had failed to put pressure on the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre to implement the promises made in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act-2014.He said: “Andhra Pradesh would have been economically strong had the Special Category Status been implemented as it was incorporated in the Act..
