Samsung may have led the world in foldables but Huawei was the first to launch a tri-fold phone. The South Korean giant came out with its own contender last year, the Galaxy Z TriFold, which was only offered in limited quantities and in select markets. As rumors continue to circulate about the Galaxy Z TriFold 2, Huawei has launched the Mate XT 2, its latest tri-fold phone, which now sets a new benchmark for Samsung's next attempt to meet. Samsung expected to launch the new tri-fold phone next yearHuawei has been influenced by Samsung for the Mate XT 2, as it now has a dual inward-folding design like the Galaxy Z TriFold.There are some areas where the new handset stands apart. It's thinner and lighter than the Galaxy Z TriFold while its display also has support for a stylus. It even has better IP58/59 dust and water resistance.The foldable display is also slightly bigger at 10.2-inches compared to the Galaxy Z TriFold's 10-inch panel, while both devices have a 6.5-inch cover display. It runs on Huawei's own Kirin 9050 Pro chip while Samsung's next tri-fold will likely use Qualcomm's flagship Snapdragon chipset.Rumors about the Galaxy Z TriFold 2 suggest that it will be thinner and lighter than its predecessor. It remains to be seen whether it will come in below the Mate XT 2. As Samsung has moved away from S Pen support on its foldables, that's not something we can count on for this device.Hopefully Samsung will opt for a wider launch this time around and make the Galaxy Z TriFold 2 available in larger quantities. Since it doesn't face the same market access constraints as Huawei, its next tri-fold should be able to make a bigger mark on the market.
