Roberto De Zerbi has enough problems to deal with after Spurs’ winless start to the Premier League season, and now a new issue from inside the club is giving him another unwanted headache.De Zerbi’s first three Premier League line-ups of the season have all unfortunately been leaked on social media 24 hours before kick-off, meaning Tottenham’s opponents have also had plenty of time to see exactly which players are expected to start. It is not the first time Spurs have had to deal with something like this. Ange Postecoglou also faced a similar problem in April last year, although that involved sensitive medical information about players and their injuries making its way out of Hotspur Way.The Europa League-winning manager was extremely unhappy about the situation and spoke at length about the issue at the time, before eventually confirming that the club had narrowed down where the leak was coming from. However, the latest lineup leaks suggest there may once again be a problem somewhere inside the wider club set-up.Credit: @thefrederikkejensen / InstagramAlasdair Gold discusses who could be behind Tottenham line-up leaksOn the latest episode of Talking Tottenham, Harry Brent asked football.london’s Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold who could be responsible for the leaks and what action the club might take to identify the source.Gold replied:“I don’t think they’re publicly seeing it as a big thing at the moment. I think it’s one of these things where, among us in the media, it’s just getting a bit weird. It’s like the team is now out the day before across social media, across WhatsApp groups, messaging boards, whatever. That’s not a good thing.”The pair then joked about Nottingham Forest manager Oliver Glasner’s comments last week, when he claimed ‘it is easy to prepare against De Zerbi’, given that he might have already had a pretty good idea of what Tottenham’s starting XI was going to look like.Gold went on to point out that Spurs have been dealing with this kind of issue for several years, although there are many possible explanations for how the latest information could be getting out.“But it’s a weird thing that has dogged Spurs for a few years now. Ange Postecoglou went mad about it once because someone kept getting a lot of detailed medical information out there, and it’s all kind of ethical stuff to that. That’s a bit, you know, that’s a bit dodgy.“But for De Zerbi to kind of know that the opposition is going to know what his team is the next day, it’s like, you know, these little kind of percentage points in football. Even if that’s like half a percentage point advantage to the other team, you can’t have that.“And we don’t know where it’s coming from. It could be just idle chit chat between players and their families or agents or anything. It could be a disgruntled player that’s not in the lineup that tells someone. There are so many people connected with a football team.”Leaking line ups does not help the club at allThere is no justifiable reason why anyone associated with the club would leak team selections ahead of matchday, beyond the fleeting five minutes of social media notoriety craved by so-called ‘ITKs’ who pretend to support the club.Giving an opponent extra time to prepare for the exact XI they are likely to face can only remove an element of uncertainty, however small that advantage might be.That is why, quite simply, the priority should be finding the source rather than trying to work around the leaks. As Gold put it:“So yeah, I don’t know how you kind of do it, whether you train with the wrong team out there. But then you’re kind of missing valuable training time by doing that.“But it is going to become an issue. I would imagine it might come up in a press conference on Friday. It’s one of those where it made good copy as well with Ange, you know, talking about the mole. And I know he had his suspicions over who that was.“But it’s a very different club now. There’s so many different people there. But yeah, they’ve got to plug that gap or hunt the mole, snare the mole, whatever it is.”READ MORE: Tottenham told they just overpaid for ‘ordinary Joe’ who can’t see a ‘clever pass’ The post ‘It’s getting a bit weird’ – What Tottenham think about ‘mole’ leaking matchday line-ups appeared first on Spurs Web.
