Watch: Alex Borg Questions How Daphne’s Masterminds Remain Free Nine Years On

Wait 5 sec.

A week after the Yorgen Fenech trial verdict was delivered and the Accused was found Not Guilty on two to conspiracy and complicity in Daphne Caruana Galizia’s murder, Opposition leader Alex Borg sat down for an interview with Lovin Malta.Asked where, according to him, things went wrong in the police investigation which left the Caruana Galizia family without a conviction, Borg said he would rather stick to facts rather than opinion, “because opinions can be interpreted however everyone wants.”The fact, he said, is that nine years after Caruana Galizia’s assassination, Malta still has no justice: the mastermind or masterminds behind her murder remain free. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Lovin Malta (@lovinmalta)For nine of those years, he said, the public was told to “let the institutions work, let the investigations work”, yet nine years on, neither Daphne’s family nor Malta and Gozo have justice for one of the biggest assassinations the country has ever seen.Borg pointed to shortcomings that surfaced during the trial which, he said, may have existed in the preliminary investigations carried out before it.He also noted that other processes are still outstanding: the judge, in sentencing after the jury’s verdict, called for investigations into material and testimony that pointed to third parties named during the trial. Borg said he would be watching to see whether those investigations actually happen, nine years after the murder, adding that despite letting the institutions do their work, Malta still hasn’t reached justice for whoever ordered Caruana Galizia’s killing. What do you make of this?•
