why do lower income people sometimes glaze people who clearly get their money through unethical means ive noticed this a lot and i genuinely dont understand it youll see someone who clearly has money buys a new car starts flexing whatever and suddenly everyone is like mbinga 😭 and treating this person like theyre some kind of role model bro i want to be like you coach me notice me meanwhile its pretty obvious that the way this person is getting their money probably isnt exactly clean and what confuses me even more is that some of these same people will turn around and complain about how bad the economy is how people are struggling to afford food how public services are falling apart how theres no money for healthcare education infrastructure etc so where do we think that money is going obviously not every wealthy person is corrupt and im not saying being poor automatically means you support this stuff ive seen the exact same mentality in middle and upper middle income circles too its more about the way we sometimes treat visible wealth as proof that someone is successful without caring how they got there what really gets me is when people who are actually trying to get out through legitimate means get clowned for it someone is focused on school learning a skill starting a business working a normal job whatever and suddenly theyre trying too hard or acting better than everyone but someone who suddenly has a ridiculous amount of money with no obvious legitimate explanation gets treated like a celebrity and im not even trying to make this a poor people are bad argument because thats not what i mean at all if anything i think its worth asking why people who are directly affected by economic inequality can end up admiring the people who may be contributing to it like if public hospitals are struggling schools are underfunded people cant afford basic necessities and the people responsible for managing public money are living incredibly lavish lifestyles shouldnt our reaction be where did the money go rather than damn bro can you teach me how to get like you im genuinely curious where this mentality comes from is it just seeing wealth as the easiest visible form of success is it resentment towards people who take the legitimate route because it seems too slow or is it something deeper culturally submitted by /u/swagburns [link] [comments]
