The Government of Uganda, through the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), is implementing the Katosi–Mutungo Water Supply Improvement Project to strengthen water supply reliability and expand service capacity across several areas of Kampala and Wakiso.The project is intended to facilitate the transfer of Mutungo service areas, which currently depend on the Muyenga water supply system, to the Katosi water supply system.According to NWSC, the transfer will reduce demand on the Muyenga system, creating additional capacity and improving supply reliability across its wider service areas.The project involves laying approximately 3.8 kilometres of DN600 ductile iron pipeline from Seeta to Namanve. Upon completion, an estimated 708 cubic metres per hour of water demand will be transferred from the Muyenga system to the Katosi system.The resulting increase in capacity and improved operating levels within the Muyenga system are expected to enhance water supply reliability in a number of communities across Kampala and Wakiso.Among the areas expected to benefit are Rubaga, Lungujja, parts of Wakaliga Road, Busega, Natete, Ndebba, Mutundwe, Nalukolongo, Makindye, Salaama Road, Busabala, Mutesa I Road, Sentema Road, Rusaze, Mackay Road, Mbubi Road, Kamanya, Kitinzi, Kibumbiro, Albert Cook, Sekabakintu Road, Gumotoka and Kabuusu.Other areas include Bulenga, Buloba, Bulaga, Wotansimbi, Bukasa, Buyala, Kyebando, Gganda-Nasere, Kamu-Kamu, Bujjuko, Kawoko, Gombe-Kitasa, Naluvule, parts of Ssenge, Kabulengwa, Kireka-Biira, Nakabugo, Kigoma and Kayunga.Expanding system capacityThe project is expected to improve the flexibility of water distribution between the Katosi and Ggaba systems, while strengthening the overall capacity of the national water supply network.By shifting demand from the Muyenga system to Katosi, the project will allow NWSC to optimise available water resources and improve the reliability of supply to customers in areas that have experienced pressure on the existing system.The initiative is part of ongoing government efforts to improve urban water supply infrastructure and ensure that growing communities have access to a more reliable water supply.Completion targeted for NovemberThe Government is working to complete the project by November 2026.Once completed, the Katosi–Mutungo Water Supply Improvement Project is expected to deliver improved water supply reliability, increased system capacity and greater operational flexibility, particularly for customers in the affected service areas.The project will also contribute to strengthening the resilience of Kampala’s water supply network as demand continues to grow.The post Katosi–Mutungo Water Supply Improvement Project Takes Shape appeared first on The Insider.
