The Daphne Caruana Galizia Foundation has issued a fresh call for justice following Yorgen Fenech’s acquittal, urging people to take to the streets next week to demand a retrial.“They have denied Daphne justice — but the fight does not end here,” the Foundation said in a post shared together with Amphora Media.The Foundation described the outcome of Fenech’s trial as an “atrocious failure of justice”, saying that 107 months after Caruana Galizia’s assassination, “justice remains out of reach”.“We cannot stay silent,” it said. “We must continue fighting for justice for Daphne, and for every journalist whose safety is now at greater risk.”The Foundation also linked the fight for justice to the protection of democracy, declaring: “When justice fails, democracy suffers.”“If you’re angry, you have every right to be. Turn that anger into action,” it continued, calling on people to join a demonstration on Wednesday, 16th September at 7pm to “demand justice and a retrial”.“For Daphne. For justice. For democracy,” the Foundation concluded.Yorgen Fenech was found not guilty of complicity in the wilful homicide of Daphne Caruana Galizia and criminal association following a 55-day trial earlier this month.•
