Prime Minister Robert Abela has inaugurated the Marnisi Wine Estate following an investment of more than €5.8 million, including €2.2 million in European funding. The project builds on more than a century of winemaking experience by a Maltese family business and aims to strengthen the production of high-quality local wine while creating added value for sectors including agriculture and tourism.Abela said the investment is an example of how European funds should be used to support private investment, create productive assets and generate long-term economic activity. The Prime Minister also highlighted the estate’s focus on sustainability and innovation, noting that Marnisi is Malta’s only wine estate with organic certification. The investment is also expected to strengthen Malta’s tourism offering, with the estate combining local wine, agriculture, gastronomy, architecture and the Maltese landscape, particularly in the south of the island.“When Maltese wine reaches an international table and is recognised for its quality, it is not simply a bottle being exported. It carries Malta’s name with it,” Abela said.He added that the project reflects confidence in Maltese enterprise, local skills and Malta’s ability to produce premium products that can compete internationally.•
