Nelly Korda showcased her world number one greatness right out of the gate at the 2026 Solheim Cup.Korda joined Allisen Corpuz in the opening foursomes match of the 20th edition of the women’s team event, taking on the star European pair of Charley Hull and Lottie Woad.Korda and Corpuz claimed an historic win over Hull and WoadGettyAnd it was one way traffic in Match 1 in the Netherlands as the Americans secured a dominant victory in double quick time.Korda and Corpuz also made a little piece of Solheim Cup history in their win.The USA duo became the first pairing to go 5UP in a foursomes match en route to a thumping 4&3 win over Europe’s two best players.Korda said: “[Allisen] is just so solid. I enjoy playing with her so much. We have a lot of fun out there. I can rely on her.“She is just such a solid player, and it is really good to rely on her. Still a lot of work to do, but going to go out and support the rest of the girls.“It is nice to see some red on the leaderboard.”Corpuz added: “I always make the joke to Nelly that it’s nice to be 30 yards ahead of where I would be on my own drive! Once you lose momentum, it can be tough to come back.“It was great fun, I really enjoyed it and the first tee was incredible. “Foursomes is a tricky format. On this course it’s weird. I hadn’t really hit an iron shot until hole 11. I felt I was only hitting putts for most of it.”Korda, who won two of the five women’s majors this summer, is the top ranked player in the women’s game.While Woad and Hull, fifth and sixth in the world respectively, are the next highest ranked players at the Solheim Cup, they were blown away by their American rivals.Europe will need Hull to bounce backGettyAngela Stanford’s Team USA got another early point on the board in the second foursomes match as Nanna Koerstz Madsen and Celine Boutier lost 3&2 to Lauran Coughlin and Alison Lee.The Americans are the defending champions in the Solheim Cup following their win at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Virginia in 2024.But they haven’t won in Europe since 2015 so will be buoyed by their fast start in Holland.Korda will likely play all five sessions at Bernardus with the fourballs coming up on Friday afternoon.
