Rather than continuing to market the first book as Sorcerer’s Stone, Scholastic is adopting the same title used by HBO for the first season of its television reboot.The series itself had already signaled the change earlier this year. HBO officially identified its opening season – which stars Dominic McLaughlin the title role – as Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, including in American promotional material.The new paperback now aligns the publishing side of the reboot with that decision. However, this does not mean every existing copy of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone is being renamed or removed. The philosopher’s stone comes from centuries of alchemical legend and was traditionally believed to turn base metals into gold and help create an elixir of life. That history directly informs Rowling’s story, where Nicolas Flamel possesses the Stone, and Voldemort attempts to steal it to restore himself.That determination to get the books right also appears to be affecting production itself. According to The Sun, Warner Bros. executives have reportedly scrapped initial scripts for season two, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, with plot and characterization among the areas still being refined.Credit: HBOThe reset has reportedly pushed filming of major scenes back by two months. Production had been expected to begin in August, but those sequences are now said to have been postponed until October while the scripts are completed and approved.
